Step 1: Stay Safe

Make sure you and anyone involved are safe and secure.

Call the police if required by law or your policy.

Step 2: Gather Information

Get as much information as possible from witnesses or anyone else involved in the accident, including names, addresses, phone numbers, registration plate numbers, makes and models, and insurer details.

If you have your phone or a camera handy, take some photos of the incident.

Step 3: Call or Click

Tell us what has happened straight away.

Call your broker or MECON on 02 9252 1040 or make a claim by completing the most appropriate form.

What happens after you make a claim?

Below is an overview of what to expect after you’ve made a claim. Remember, if you have any questions or if you would like to know how your claim is progressing, please contact our claims professionals on 02 9252 1040.


We will ask you to obtain a quote or a costing to repair and/or replace the items affected.


We will assess the quotes and damage, and thereafter give approval to repair the damage or replace your goods.


We will take care of any settlements for damage to other parties, or recover any losses from third parties.


MECON is committed to meeting and exceeding our clients’ expectations whenever possible and would like to know if your expectations haven’t been met. You are entitled to make a complaint about any aspect of your relationship with MECON including the conduct of its agents. MECON will attempt in good faith to resolve any complaint/dispute in a fair, transparent and timely manner.

Confirmation of Transaction for Claims

Under the law if you are a *Retail Client you are entitled to confirmation information (‘the Confirmation’) when AIG accepts or settles a claim made by you under this insurance coverage (‘the Transaction’).

MECON has established a facility, on behalf of AIG, under which you can send an email to us at [email protected]  requesting the Confirmation. We will provide the Confirmation to you as soon as reasonably practicable.

We will assume that you agree to the use of the facility to obtain the Confirmation, unless you advise us at the above email address you do not agree to the use of the facility and that you wish to obtain the Confirmation in another way.

*Under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) a Retail Client is:

  • an individual; or
  • a manufacturing business employing less than 100 people; or
  • any other business employing less than 20 people.
