Meet the MECON Insurance team

Glenn Ross – CEO
Glenn brings over 30 years experience to his role as CEO, MECON Insurance.
Prior to starting MECON Insurance in November 2003, Glenn spent 15 years underwriting engineering risks in both Australia and New Zealand and 10 years as an insurance broker – specialising in construction, plant and engineering insurance.
During this time he was also a risk manager to one of the top 20 multinational construction companies. He has a strong working knowledge of the industry and his experience is assisting MECON Insurance to become one of Australia’s leading providers of insurance.

Jon Denney – General Manager
Jon has been working in the insurance industry since 1995. Originally from the UK, Jon relocated to Australia in 2013 and joined MECON in 2016 as our Victorian State Manager before his appointment as General Manager at the beginning of 2022.
Jon’s experience spans various product lines with global insurers and underwriting agencies, with his responsibilities including underwriting, distribution and management positions.

Milos Skopljak – National Claims Manager
Milos joined MECON in 2010, prior to which he held senior claims roles with two other large general insurers. He has many years of experience across multiple insurance classes, including but not limited to construction, heavy machinery, property and liability.
A result and service driven professional, Milos is highly regarded within the industry and is a valuable member of our team. Milos holds a university Graduate Diploma in Financial Services and is a NSW Justice of the Peace. He is also an affiliate with multiple industry related groups and associations.

Howaida Nakhla – National Underwriting Manager
Howaida has been in the insurance market for over 35 years with the past 25 years specialising in underwriting and managing engineering and casualty portfolios.
Prior to joining MECON, Howaida has held senior underwriting management roles in Queensland and NSW.
Her service ethic to her clients is outstanding and her passion for underwriting is well recognised in the market.

Aysha Hollingdale – Legal & Compliance Manager
As an experienced healthcare practitioner and admitted lawyer, Aysha brings considerable expertise and knowledge to MECON Insurance. She understands the requirements of the business and supports a transparent and strong regulatory compliance framework that meets governing guidelines.
Aysha ensures that MECON’s Australian Financial Services Licence obligations are met to the highest standards, and that its representatives comply with the standards, both legally and ethically.
Aysha holds a Masters and Bachelor of Law and is admitted to the Supreme Court.

Simon Marr – NSW State Manager
Simon has over 18 years underwriting experience in the Australian and UK insurance market.
Since joining MECON in 2007, Simon has broadened his skills and knowledge of Construction and Plant risks within Australia.
Prior to this, Simon worked as a Commercial Underwriter for two Global Insurers. His experience includes underwriting large volume schemes and delivering practical insurance risk solutions. Simon enjoys working with people to help achieve positive results and values the need to maintain good standards of service.

Courtney Spann – QLD State Manager
Starting her insurance career in 2010 as Office Manager, Courtney soon moved to an underwriting support role. Courtney was nominated for “The Mick Lambert Barker Award” for “Service Above and Beyond” for the 2013/2014 year.
Courtney’s roles prior to MECON saw her specialise in Contractors Plant Insurance.
Courtney started as an Underwriter in MECON’s QLD office in 2018. Specific construction insurance training was provided by Howaida Nakhla (National Underwriting Manager) and the QLD State Manager. Courtney was promoted to Senior Underwriter in early 2021 and recently promoted to QLD State Manager.

Elise Pretto – VIC State Manager
Starting with MECON in September 2006 straight from high school, Elise was the tenth employee hired by MECON Insurance. Elise started in the NSW office as a receptionist, in the same week the MECON office moved from Jamison Street to Margaret Street, Sydney. Elise attended our inaugural office opening.
In 2010 Elise transferred to the QLD branch, where she worked closely with Howaida Nakhla (now our National Underwriting Manager, but then our QLD State Manager). Elise progressed to Assistant Underwriter under Howaida’s tutelage, then moved back to Sydney in 2011 following the Brisbane floods that year.
Elise has honed her technical and broker relationship skills, assisted in the setup of our WA branch in 2013 and was promoted to Underwriter in 2015. Elise transferred to the VIC branch in 2016 and has continued to progress, being promoted to Senior Underwriter and being appointed as VIC State Manager in 2021.

Daniel Joiner – WA State Manager
Daniel relocated from our Melbourne office to manage our Perth branch in 2015.
Daniel completed his Bachelor of Commerce in 2010 and was recruited into the insurance industry. Having worked in both an underwriting agency and broking environments, he brings a understanding of both environments and employs this knowledge in building relationships and underwriting risks.
